The Free Port of Trieste, framed by the States that defeated Nazi-Fascist Italy in 1945 as a natural outlet on the Mediterranean for the countries of central Europe and their commercial traffic to and from all over the world, in recent days, due to a forced military alliance to which our port should be extraneous, that is the one with NATO, is undergoing yet another unacceptable abuse together with the citizens of Trieste.
In fact, Italy, the state administrator of the free port of Trieste, has forcibly prevented access to Russian ships since April 2022, even though it is not at war with Moscow and is not an ally of Ukraine!
But if this hateful initiative is already inadmissible in itself for the ports of the neighboring Italian state, it is doubly unthinkable for the international port of Trieste, since – as everyone knows by now – its extraterritoriality is defined by Annex VIII to the Peace Treaty.
Last, but not least: for the same reasons specified in the Treaty, the free port of Trieste, established for international merchant traffic, could not even host military ships like the American aircraft carrier USS Truman, engaged at the head of a fleet composed of others six units, in the war actions against Russia, also endangering the safety of the citizens of Trieste.
Below we publish the appeal sent to the international community to enforce the peaceful and mercantile role of the Free Port of Trieste.
