Freedom of information is today universally thought of as an extension of freedom of speech, a fundamental human right recognised by public international law, almost all the governments in the world, and promoted by countless NGOs.
Until now, there has been a complete lack of a well-organised, clearly presented information source from Trieste (and its Territory) to the rest of the world. Any news from this area of Europe would have to be filtered by news agencies based hundreds of kilometers from it.
Right now The Trieste Times is, therefore, the main direct news source in English from Trieste and its Territory.
While English is not a native language in Trieste, it has always been widely used, even informally, since the time James Joyce lived here (1904-1920), all the way to the British and American direct administration of the city (1945-1954), and even today by many citizens, students and tourists.
The Trieste Times was, therefore, very much needed since long before globalisation as we know it kicked in.
English is also becoming one of the languages chosen by young citizens of this corner of Europe: in an area where Italian, Slovenian, Croatian, German, etc. (plus a number of local languages and dialects) are currently spoken, English just happens to be, more and more often, the most neutral and reliable mean of communication.
We plan on improving the current situation – locally and internationally – by communicating from Trieste in a clear way, to be understood by all citizens of Mitteleuropa (Central Europe) and beyond.
We are always striving to expose facts, not simplified opinions.
This very intention, in the local media scenario, might as well be really big news.
